Entry Deadline: March 15, 2010 It’s a great way to promote our favorite Olympic sport around the globe. It’s also a terrific way to earn a little cash for our clubs on college campuses around the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico (only official or transitional NCTTA member schools in good standing can enter). Start those cameras rolling!! Arnold Table Tennis Challenge Comes to Columbus Then you'll want to play in the 2010 Arnold Table Tennis Challenge, sponsored by Killerspin. The event, a 3-star USATT sanctioned tournament will be held in Columbus, Ohio, from March 5-7, 2010. The tournament is part of the Arnold Sports Festival and Fitness Expo which is the largest multi-sport event in the country, attracting over 18,000 athletes and more than 160,000 visitors over the 3 days of the festival. All participants in the table tennis events receive one free wristband to visit the festival events and competitions. Don't miss it! Entry Form: Online here NCTTA 2010 Spring Regionals Attract Fans Forty or so college teams and 250 players (give or take a few) from campuses stretching from Canada to California are expected to be on hand for the spirited paddle action April 9-11 with key sponsors like Killerspin and Newgy Industries helping make it possible. But to get there, NCTTA regionals are up first and teams will have to give it their all to reach Wisconsin in April. It all began with the Texas Division Jan 31 at ... where else ... Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth. By the time you read this newsletter, other regionals will have come and gone. Here’s a partial schedule of some key regional matchups in late February: Feb 20 at Rochester Community and Technical College (Minnesota Division) Feb 21 at Univ. of Central Florida in Orlando (Florida Division) Feb 27 at Boston University (New England Division) Feb. 27 at Ohio State in Columbus (Ohio Division) Feb. 27/28 at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City (NYC Division) Feb. 28 at the Univ. of Southern California in Los Angeles (Southern California Division) NCTTA fans and players and coaches are encouraged to invite friends and foes alike. Tell them to check out some of the best collegiate table tennis on the planet! Our favorite Olympic sport is growing in popularity around the globe. Let’s do our part to spread the word! Actress Susan Sarandon is doing so as the owner of a new table tennis club in New York City. But you don’t have to be a movie star in Hollywood to get the word out. Florida State Surges to No. 6 in NCTTA Rankings  Florida State’s legendary football coach Bobby Bowden retired after his Gator Bowl triumph over the West Virginia Mountaineers.Saying farewell to the beloved 80-year-old coach, who finished a modest 7-6 in his final season, was a huge story for the Seminole Nation in recent months. Bowden’s out and Jimbo Fisher is in as coach of an FSU team that’s enjoyed much success, including two national championships, under Bowden. The Alabama native ranks No. 2 in football victories in NCAA Division I circles behind Penn State’s Joe Paterno. They didn’t make a big media splash like Bowden’s retirement, but the Florida State Table Tennis Team is making lots of noise around the Sunshine State and across the USA. During the fall and winter, there’s good reason for table tennis fans to get fired up on the Tallahassee campus. After all, the eight-member FSU coed squad recently catapulted to a ranking of No. 6 in the nation in the midseason rankings. FSU landed a notch below No. 5 Virginia Tech, a perennial table tennis powerhouse. Meanwhile, Puerto Rico, one of three schools that hands out scholarships to top players, came in at No. 8. The new rankings really shook up the collegiate table tennis world because FSU’s last trip to a top 25 national ranking was back in 2006. Back then FSU was ranked No. 23. FSU has never been listed in the elite company of the Top Ten –- until now. Read more ... Texan Timothy Wang Wows Table Tennis Crowds Not nearly as well known as Kobe, a sure shot for the NBA Hall of Fame, Timothy Wang as emerging as a big star when it comes to the Olympic sport of table tennis in the Lone Star State. In fact, the 19-year-old Wang is also developing quite a reputation on the world stage, too. The facts back up Tim’s quest for greatness. His dad, Sam Wang, says his son practices table tennis five hours a day six days a week as he bids to join the U.S. Olympic Team in 2012 at the London Games. Practice, man, practice is also the best way for a singer or musician to get to the stage of Carnegie Hall in New York. Timothy Wang is well on his way to the big-time in table tennis and the teen has the heart to succeed. The 2009 Junior National Champion, Wang first got interested in the game at age 5 when he went to Houston Table Tennis Association clubs with his older brother, Roland, reports the Houston Chronicle in a June 2009 story written by Jordan Godwin. What’s new with Tim Wang these days? His father, Sam Wang, tells the NCTTA newsletter staff in February that his son, who’s been a consistent table tennis winner since age 8, is considering college. in Who Dat Nation knows Drew Brees, the New Orleans saints quarterback
who led New Orleans to win their first ever Super Bowl. In post-Katrina
Dixie, Brees is a hero, and now a Super Bowl MVP.Not every football fan knows that Brees was also a star signal caller for the Purdue Boilermakers and one of the best quarterbacks in Big Ten history. He’s been the talk of the West Lafayette campus for more than a decade. After all, Brees tossed an amazing 90 touchdowns at Purdue. But also getting a little attention lately at the Indiana school is the newly energized Purdue Table Tennis Club. Led by club president Yutao Yue, the club’s roster has grown to more than 70 members. The club hosted the Purdue Winter Open and it was an enormous success. Students, faculty and alumni showed up to play, while others cheered on the Boilermakers. Among the tournament medal winners was a Purdue math professor. Purdue is recruiting more players, stepping up practices and will host more tournaments in the future in West Lafayette, an hour’s drive from Indianapolis. The club will now host a monthly Purdue Open League. Read more ... Canada Grows Talented College TT Players Check out the latest NCTTA mid-season rankings
and you'll see an unprecedented number of teams from Canada from top to
bottom. For instance, Western Ontario sits in the No. 3 spot among the
women’s teams, just one notch below No. 2 Rutgers of New Jersey. Other
teams from Canada landing in the top 25 for the women include Toronto
at No. 15 and British Columbia at No. 19. Women’s table tennis is
definitely on a growth spurt on the campus scene in North America. Sponsor

Robo Pong Affiliate Program.Miami of Ohio Launches Table Tennis Team At last count, more than 100 Miami alumni are active in coaching in the college or pro level, mostly as head coaches. Over the past 63 years, 19 collegiate and pro coaches with Miami roots have been named National Coaches of the Year. With this type of history, the future looks bright for Miami’s attempt to get active in colleget table tennis action in their region. Famous football coaches over the years who are Miami University alums include Paul Brown of the Cleveland Browns, Woody Hayes of Ohio State, Weeb Eubank of the NY Jets, and Ara Parseghian of Notre Dame.
